Hi & Welcome
Interactive Storytelling Site

Originally intended as a school project where the requirement was the use of JQuery/Javascript, Hi & Welcome evolved into an extensive experiment in the various ways Javascript could be used to create puzzles for the viewer.

Hi & Welcome tells the story of the viewer's humanity being siphoned into a nebulous being that never reveals its intentions.

These are the original site diagram and site map when I was planning the site. The idea was that, if the player failed to figure out the puzzle they would be brought to an alternate version of the puzzle they failed to try again.

welcome page 1

This is the landing page that any 'player' would be sent to. It is disguised as a personality quiz that supposedly gives the 'player' their fortune.

welcome page 2a welcome page 2b

On the next page, the puzzles begin. In this case, the square in the middle can be moved to reveal clues and coloured squares underneath. The coloured squares need to be clicked on in the correct order to progress to the next page.

welcome page 3a welcome page 3b

As mentioned earlier, if the puzzle is completed incorrectly, the 'player' is sent to an alternate version of the puzzle they failed. If they fail the first puzzle, they are sent to this page. They must press enter to reveal the puzzle. The solution to this puzzle is, in fact, the incorrect answer they gave when they failed the last puzzle.

The next puzzle. In this case, the image above runs away from the cursor. The puzzle underneath changes depending on what answers the 'player' gave on the original splash page.

welcome page 5a welcome page 5b

This is a side-by-side of the next puzzle and its alternate version. Both have clues to the puzzle hidden behind the above image and is shown through parallax scrolling.

welcome final page

The final page that is intended to be shown when the 'player' finishes the alternate side of the puzzle website. It is considered the "fail state" of the game where the 'player' has had their entire being has been absorbed into the mysterious being.
