Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
Book Cover Design and Typesetting

I have been a fan of the genre of Magical Realism for as long as I can remember. When I was given the project to create a cover and typeset a book I jumped on Kafka on the Shore very quickly. Partially because of how much I enjoy it but also because of the depth of imagery found in its pages.

As well as creating the cover/dust-jacket for the book, I also typeset the first few chapters of the book. The book was also hand-bound.

The cover combines a few themes and imagery found within Kafka on the Shore. The book deals quite a bit with the idea of connected fates and the seedier parts of life. I also wanted to create a dust-jacket that spans the whole page, only revealing the entirety of the image when fully spread out.
